Occupy Vancouver Update

The Occupy Vancouver  (OV) web site recently posted they are planning to block the New Brighton Port Entrance for 12 hours commencing on Monday, December 12th at noon.  The OV movement is asking community organizations, rank-and-file and union members to join them. 

The Port of Metro Vancouver, The RCMP, Vancouver Police, and Transport Canada have met to discuss a response if OV trespasses at or near the entrances of the Port.  The RCMP and Vancouver Police would not commit to a specific response regarding the blockng of traffic and will evaluate the situation as it develops.

ILWU Local 500 has indicated that they will not be participating in a concerted manner and it will be business as usual for Vancouver longshore.  The BCMEA will issue instructions to the Vancouver Longshore Dispatch Hall and the ILWU Dispatch Coordinators to direct labour via the Heatley Street Overpass to avoid the protest.
