Extreme Cold Weather Impacting Trains

The following is a recent update from CN Rail

Due to the recent extreme cold weather impacting train lengths as well as, the now resolved disruption on our mainline between Winnipeg and Melville near Atwater, Saskatchewan, customers may experience delays of 24-48 hours to traffic moving through the Western Canada region.

Service Delivery is monitoring impacted traffic and will be in contact with customers that have shipments at risk. The remainder of the network remains fluid.

Customers with Shipments destined Overseas: The IMX-Export Service Delivery team is monitoring traffic traveling in this corridor closely and will advise if any loads are in jeopardy of not making their intended vessel.

The ingenious logistical solution to these constraints was the construction of an artificial harbor on Omaha beach. The harbor, known as Mulberry A, included a floating pier, breakwaters, and three causeways. The harbor boasted a capacity of 5,000 tons per day. By the end of June 1944, the Allies had delivered 289,827 tons of supplies on Normandy beaches.
