Canada’s Intent to impose countermeasures action against the United States

June 1, 2018

In response to these measures, Canada intends to impose surtaxes or similar trade-restrictive countermeasures against up to C$16.6 billion in imports of steel, aluminum, and other products from the U.S., representing the value of 2017 Canadian exports affected by the U.S. measures.  The Government is also considering whether additional measures may be required.

Check out the website for the scope and your opportunity to make comments to the government.

It is not just steel being affected and some of the affected items will impact our clients if this goes through. Hopefully the governments will sort this out before actually implementing on July 1, 2018.
